Thaïs was Alexander the Great’s hetaera. Legend has it that she convinced him to arson Persepolis. This piece for ensemble has a programmatic character. The instruments, techniques and pitch material used are inspired by the context of the story of the great city’s death. The structure of Thaïs can be dissected into three parts: Thaïs’ speech, Arson and Ruins.
The piece was premiered by the Chimera Ensemble in Sir Jack Lyons concert hall in York, UK and one of the first works that belong to the composer’s early phase.
